We were in Door County till Labor Day. Maxine & I did some hiking going to different parks & beaches. On Labor Day weekend there was 11 of us who got together for the long weekend outing. We all had a great time & great weather too. The Door Peninsula is one little harbor town after another. Sturgeon Bay is the only real city of any size in Door County it is on the southern end of the county. After leaving Sturgeon Bay and heading north along the west side of the peninsula, (that goes along the Green Bay side) the first harbor town you come to is Egg Harbor then Fish Creek, Ephraim, Sister Bay, Ellison Bay & then Gills Rock these are all old fishing ports from the mid 1800’s. These are all busy little touristy towns they all have marinas, lots of shop, restaurants and all kinds recreational chooses, this is the very busy side of the peninsula. The east side (the Lake Michigan side) has only two harbor towns, they are Jacksonport & Bailey’s Harbor these are also old fishing ports, but this side is not near as busy.
There were many days that Maxine got to go to the beach, she loves to run on the sand.
Some photos of the marinas in the Harbor Town’s
Egg Harbor
Fish Creek
Ephraim
Bailey’s Harbor from across the bay
Shops in Fish Creek, all the towns have nice shops to check out.
We did this hike right in town of Fish Creek, all the towns have great parks.
There are 11 Lighthouses from the 1800s to see in Door County here are few of them.
Peninsula State Park’s Eagle Bluff Lighthouse
Cana Island Lighthouse
Sherwood Point Lighthouse
After door county stay we came back to Oxford for a few day to do some work around the house.
Then on the 13th of September we went on weeklong fishing trip to Land O’ Lakes WI on the Cisco chain of lakes. This is a Fishing trip that I & some good friends have been doing ever September for some years now. There was four of us this year, it is always a great time. This was the first time on these lakes, we stayed in this great cabin right on one of the lakes.
My good friend Gary
We made friends with some of the many eagles that make these lakes home in the summer.
They would hangout and wait for us to catch a fish and if it would get hurt too bad and lay on top the water to long then they would fly down & get them for lunch.
We have great sunset most days.
Then we came back to Oxford and been taking it easy for the last three weeks. Seeing friends & family doing a lot of card playing, a little work around to house and getting ready for the long winter here in Wisconsin soon to come. Last weekend Oct. 9 – 11 I & my sister Jean her husband Tom, Jane & Darcy went to Columbia Park a Fond du Lac County Park on Lake Winnebago. This was the last outing for them this year before they put their campers away for the year. The park is a nice small spot on the east side of the lake just north of the city of Fond du Lac, it has a 70-foot observation tower with some great views. The weather was great in the 70’s that is above average for this time of the year here in Wisconsin.
This week I will be getting ready to go south for a month or two. I will be going to Georgia near the city of Thomasville to stay with my friend Dick on some land that he leases for the winter, so that he can train his dogs. More to come on this later.
So glad to FINALLY get an update from you! I was just saying to Bill over the weekend that I was going to send you an email, but here you are!
I can see why you hadn’t been in touch – so busy in such a beautiful place!
Thanks for all the pics of the lighthouses – I LOVE lighthouses!
