Happy Thanksgiving to All

I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. Here at Hamburg Park, we had a full house. There were quite a few families that came to celebrate their Thanksgiving festivities, with some small and large groups. The weather still is been mostly nice getting up in the 60s most days. We’ve had some cool evenings with a couple nights where we had frost. Overall the weather’s been quite nice and sunny with calm breezes. We been keeping busy the last couple weeks catching up on some late fall chores. And making sure the park was in good shape for this busy weekend. On Thanksgiving I and the other hosts (Tammy and Stan) decided to cook a delightful feast. I fixed a turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy. Tammy made delicious homemade pierogies, deviled eggs, several different pies, Jell-O salad and a nice veggie tray. Here’s a photo of the feast before we all dug in.20171123_120755We also got the park manager Julie and her husband to join us on her lunch break at noon. 20171123_120759Of course we all ate too much. And had plenty of leftovers which we nibbled on today Friday and still have enough to get us through the weekend. It’s nice to see all the people get together with their families and friends to celebrate the good things they have. Since my last post I have not done much other than enjoying the park and the pleasant weather. But I’ve been working on some projects for the upcoming Christmas season. I’ve been working on making beaded friendship bracelets. For all the ladies in my life. Especially my daughters and granddaughter. But I’m sure there’ll be a few other ladies that I will share these with. Here’s some photos of a few of the finished ones and one more I’m working on. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI also started a project using items that I picked up on the beach this last summer. While I was on the West and East Coasts Beaches. As I walked the beaches I would pick up pieces of beach glass, polished stones, shells and sand dollars. So I got the idea to make some paperweights, sun catchers or coasters, I’m not sure what people use them for. Here’s a photo of a few of them I’m working on their not quite done yet.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWhat I did is made some frames out of some Redwood that I got out in California. I put a piece a glass in the wood frames, which I made out of the Redwood. And then arranged the items in the recess of the frame and filled it with resin. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThey are four inches square, and less than ½ inch thick. This is a time-consuming process because you have to pour the resin in thin layers, let it cure. But you can build up quite thick in time.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWhen I originally came up with the idea I was thinking they could be used as coasters, but they’re a little thick for that. But they would make neat paperweights or as Tammy said put a hanger on them and hang them in the window as sun catchers. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe people that have seen them so far think they’re pretty cool. So I hope the people I give them to appreciate them. It’s just an idea that came to me, of a way to make little souvenirs. To share what you can find on the beaches, with my friends and family. I also got some exciting news this week. My oldest daughter Crystal, will be coming to visit me on 12 December for about a week. So I’m planning some exciting adventures for her and me to do in the area. She’s looking forward to getting a little break from the cold Wisconsin weather. And were both excited about seeing each other. Once again I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. We had a nice time here at the park and are looking forward to a little more quiet time, because this will be the last big weekend for a while. Wishing well to all till next time, Rick

  1. I’m happy to see you had a nice Thanksgiving. We shared ours with Patti and Steve. They are looking forward to their next adventure too. I think your projects are wonderful especially the ones you are making with treasures from the beach. Those are the best. I also agree with Tammy that they would make a great sun catcher as they would bring great color into someones home. It’s been in the low 40’s here and we have had some snow but it didn’t stay long. Soon, however, it will. Be safe and enjoy your time with Crystal.

  2. Happy Thanksgiving to you, we miss you here in Wisconsin. Glad you’re having such great weather and tell Maxine she is a sassy dog leaving me messages about how nice the weather is there. Love the sun catcher framed beach items, very cool! Miss you lots, still trying to figure out if I can drive down sometime this spring to visit. Have fun enjoying the wonderful weather. Jean
