Lake Havasu City “Rockabilly”

On Wednesday, February 13, I packed up the RV and headed the 6-hour drive over to Lake Havasu City. To meet up with my sister Jean and her husband Tom, who were coming down to visit his brother Mike and sister-in-law Sharon (who live in Havasu City) for the week. The plan is to spend a week or more in the area having fun visiting with the friends and relatives. I got a spot just north of town, out by the airport on BML land where I can camp for free, for two weeks. Here’s a few photos of the great spot nestled in the hills in the Craggy Wash campsite area. Here’s a photo I took of them as we all sat around visiting. From right to left (sister) Jean, (brother-in-law) Tom, (Tom’s nephew) Michael, Sharon (Mike’s wife peeking her head out between her two guys) and Mike Tom’s brother (and of course Maxine making herself right at home on the floor). OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOn Saturday Tom and Mike had to drive back to Las Vegas to pick up Tom’s son “Scott” and Scott’s girlfriend “Lindsay” who were also coming to spend the week visiting the area. So, while they were off to the airport Jean, Sharon and I headed down to the 11th annual “Rockabilly Reunion Concert” in the park. Check it out here at their website and here. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe concert grounds filled up fast on a beautiful sunny day. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThere was a lot going on, they had cool Hot Rod car show. Here’s a bunch of photos of some of the cars. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

We had gotten earlier with the festivities starting around nine, we arrived at 10 before most of the crowds. But it went on all day long and into the evening. There was plenty of food and drink vendors to keep us well fed and help us to keep from getting dehydrated. Actually, two other couples from Wisconsin were in town for the weekend also, so I got to catch up with them. We caught up exchange stories of what’s been going on in our lives. I met them years ago through other friends and we used to do, camping weekends together back in Wisconsin. Their names are Dan and Darcy and Dean and Jane, sorry no pictures. We had a great time visiting and watching all the entertainment in the and enjoying the music. After picking up the kids at the airport, Tom, Mike, Scott and Lindsay all joined us at the concert and we hung around till early evening having a great time. As part of the Rockabilly Reunion. They had a pinup contest and a bunch of the pretty ladies dressed up in the 50s attire and competed for Rockabilly Queen. Here’s a couple photos of them some of them on stage. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAnd they had a junior’s pageant where some cute little kids got the dress-up also. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThey had a booth where you could get your hair style, if I would have a little more, maybe I would’ve done mine up like this guy off on the left side of this photo. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAlso going on this week was the 30th Annual Western Winter Blast Pyrotechnic Show. Every year you see they have this convention where the fireworks companies come to show off their wares and put on a nightly show that is at all quite impressive, read more about it here. Here’s a few photos of some of the fireworks but they really don’t do it justice, it was one of the biggest displays I’ve seen in years. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOne sunny afternoon I got to take Maxine down to the park of course she went swimming in the lake, so that made a happy camper of her. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThat evening we got together at Jean and Tom’s condo and Scott and Lindsay made us a great barbecue chicken dinner. Here’s a photo of the gang after enjoying the great meal. From left to right Tom, Scott, Lindsay, Sharon, Mike and Jean. 20190218_181341It’s been a busy week so far and I still got several days to go, but it’s been great fun catching up and spending time with the gain. Tomorrow were getting up early and we are headed up to the Grand Canyon hopefully the weather will be good because the last couple days they’ve gotten some snow up in the area. Darcy, Dan and Jane, Dean were up there and posted some beautiful pictures on their Facebook pages. So hopefully tomorrow the roads will be good it will get to take in the beautiful canyon, it’s been many years since I’ve been there but it’s always breathtaking. More about that the, the next post. Thanks for coming along until next time safe travels and best wishes to all, Rick
