I spent the week fishing with my old buddies in far northern Wisconsin right by the Michigan state line. We fished several lakes on the “Cisco” chain of lakes that border Wisconsin and Michigan we fished the Wisconsin side. I arrived on Saturday the 14th. There was already a lot of trees starting to change colors as you can see in these photos of the trees along the lake. They just got more brighter as the week went on and we had great weather almost every day. We were able to get out fishing as we chose to. We enjoy the rest of our time playing cards and telling wild stories and drinking. These are some of the guys that I had gone fishing when many times over the years and we had a tradition of trying to get together in September to do some late fall fishing in northern Wisconsin. Because of my travels and other circumstances, I had not gotten together with these guys for the past three years. So, it was a great reunion spending time with my buddies Gary, Jim and Joel.
We had two boats and took turns fishing with each other here’s Gary driving me out to one of the hotspots doesn’t he look happy to be with his buddy “me” LOL.
On that day I happened to catch the biggest and also the smallest perch of the trip so far. You can tell in these photos that’s the size sure really very, very much amongst the fish.
We caught hundreds of fish throughout the week, but only kept a small amount of perch, crappies. Throughout the week we caught walleyes, perch, crappies, a few rock bass and even some small northern. We didn’t catch any this year but we saw a few large muskies follow in the fish we had on. This these lakes are known for big muskies, but we do not fish for them. But every once in a while, someone will get one up to the boat by accident. Here’s a photo of some of the perch & crappies we kept one day.
One day Joel and I fried up a batch for a nice meal. This was a mixture of perch & crappies and they lasted us a couple meals.
Jim is showing off one of the nice crappie we caught, these fish sure had nice fillets on them. As we drove around the lake, I could not help but admire some of these beautiful homes around the lakes here in the North country. The interesting thing is a lot of these are just seasonal or weekend houses.
There were a number of beautiful sunsets throughout the week. It sure was nice to be back again in the “Land O Lakes” spending time with my old fishing buddies.
This past week after coming home from a wonderful fishing trip. I spent time doing a few chores and taking care of some upkeep needed on my RV. I’ve been doing a lot of card playing with my old friends around the area and just renewing old friendships. The weather’s been great except for a few days of rain and some cool evenings. But it sounds like it’s ready to turn to the chillier fall temperatures, predicting highs in the mid to high 50s over the next week. The fall colors have not started arriving here yet in central Wisconsin but as we start getting cooler evenings that will change in a hurry. I hope to hang out here till the end of October. But if it starts getting colder, I have a feeling I will want to head south because my old bones don’t take the cold weather like to use to (LOL). But in the meantime, I do have several friends and family gatherings to attend over the next few weeks. That I am looking forward to.
That’s it for now, safe travels and best wishes to all. Thanks for following along I hope you enjoyed this little catch up, Rick
Nothing like being ‘up north’, Rick! Love it.
